Ft Lauderdale Fishing May

Tuesday May 8th, 2012

Fort Lauderdale Fishing in May is absolutely awesome. If I only had one month to pick to fish out of the whole year it would be May. For one the winds have laid down leaving us with a light South East wind perfect for kite and shark fishing. The kingfish and bonitas are thick on the reef. The Dolphin (mahi mahi) are more reliable anywhere from the reef to 10 miles off shore. The swordfish are biting and the seas are perfect for day time deep dropping for them or for drifting at night. Amberjacks are big and aggressive on the artificial reefs and wrecks. Some sailfish are still lingering around. Sandbar sharks and hammer heads are at their peak this month and wahoos begin to make a real strong showing as they prey on all the bonitas. My favorite tackle buster, big black fin tunas are HERE! You gotta love when a thirty pound tuna jumps on a small spinning reel intended for a mahi mahi.

Spring Break Fishing Fort Lauderdale April

Tuesday April 17th, 2012

Fishing Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Pompano Beach waters this month will prove to be some of the years best fishing. Overall March was pretty good but April so far has been outstanding. On the troll we have been crushing medium size black fin tunas and plenty of dolphin (mahi mahi). Lots of bait around with ballyhoos on the inshore patch reefs and a ton of flying fish offshore. Sailfish are still biting on gogs out of the kites but between the dolphin and the kingfish they barely have a chance to get your bait. Multiple times already this month we’ve had two or three dolphin on while a sailfish is trying to eat another bait. Its been crazy. Oh yeah the sharks are “SNAPPIN” big hammerheads, thresher sharks, a couple of makos and some sandbar sharks as well as bull sharks. On the wrecks the big amberjacks have taken up a strong residence as well as a few groupers, good luck getting a bait past the jacks though. They have been big, aggressive and strong as ever. Bottom fishing for snappers and tilefish has been great too. I love Fishing in April!!
Oh Yeah and the Daytime sword fishing is off the chain and the night time swords are biting too!!

March Madness 2012

Friday March 2nd, 2012

Fishing Charters in Fort Lauderdale are tough to beat. Every gamefish that swims our waters is present in Fort Lauderdale fishing waters. Sailfish are still around, mahi mahi, wahoos, kingfish, amberjacks, bonitas and blackfin tunas and SHARKS! We continue to do a lot of kite fishing this month along with putting out the big baits on the 100# tackle for the giant hammerheads, thresher sharks and makos that begin their haunt upon our waters.

The weather is still mild with light predominant winds out of the South East, perfect for kite fishing and the seas average less than three feet this month which makes for comfortable fishing for everyone. Wreck fishing this month is increasingly good as the giant amberjack AKA the reef donkey begins its southward breeding migration, staging on our deeper artificial reefs and wrecks from 150-300 ft deep. Beefy tackle is called for to lower frisky live baits to the outside upcurrent edge of the wreck. The bite is fast and violent as the amberjack crushes and swollows your bait in the blink of an eye and makes a mad dash for the safety of the wreck. We lock the reel up and pull away from the wreck to try and coax the fish from his lair. Once safe from the entangling wreck you sit in the big fishting chair and go to battle. Be prepared for a long greuling fight with big runs, head shakes and brute force.

Fort Lauderdale Sport Fishing Feb 2012

Wednesday February 1st, 2012

Ft Lauderdale Fishing charter trips here in South Florida remain strong with lots of sailfish action. The strong cold fronts needed to continually push the sailfish to us are running a little behind so the big bite still hasnt happened. However a constant flow of some fish have kept the bite alive while we continue to wait for the big push. Filling in the gaps between sailfish bites have been some good size mahi mahi, some monster king mackeral and a couple of big wahoos. Kite fishing is still the preferred method of fishing this month for all the above mentioned species, although we have been sneaking a few deep lines and flat lines out while kite fishing to pick up those big kings. A triple hook jig and ballyhoo combination will fool its share of fish as well and provides some more hands on while waiting for the big bite out of the kite. Hammerhead sharks will begin to make their presence known as the month continues and the sharks we will be seeing will start to step it up in size as well. Shark Fishing Fort Lauderdale in the coming months is excellent and if you have ever wanted to catch a sea monster, now through June is a great time to do it!

Fort Lauderdale Fishing Charters January

Tuesday January 10th, 2012

Fort Lauderdale Fishing Charters in January are much the same as December. Only the sail fish bite just keeps getting better and better. There was a record setting bite just north of us in the Palm Beach area and we are just waiting our turn as the fish push south to Fort Lauderdale for awaiting anglers. Kite fishing is still hands down the best way to entice these acrobatic spindle beaks. Light tackle makes for the ultimate show allowing the sail fish to express its raw blistering powerful runs interupted with moments of insane A#$ over tea kettle jumps! FT Lauderdale Charter Fishing presents you with a true opportunity to catch one of the greatest gamefish to swim the Atlantic Ocean. Wahoos have continued to make a strong showing as well and as one of the tastiest fish around and one of the hardest fighters, they are a welcomed addition. Medium sized blackfin tunas are prowling the depths as well just outside the reef in 200-400 ft of water and keep us entertained between wahoo bites. You cant go wrong fishing this month and the weather has been beautiful!

Ft Lauderdale Fishing December 2011

Sunday December 11th, 2011

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The schools of bait are here, shoals of mullet and balls of sardines and acres of ballyhoo. The mahi mahi have been showing a trend in the last couple years ft lauderdale mahi mahi fishing was always considered a summer time fishery but the last couple of years the summers have been so so for the golden gamester and the winter has been excellent for them. Even better news they are close to shore right off the edge of the reef and sometimes right on top of it. We have been seeing schoolies and catching the big bulls and cows as well. They are providing the entertainment factor between sailfish bites. The sailfish have been showing in great numbers as well and is on everyones list for Santa this month. From now until May sailfish make a strong showing as Fort Lauderdales premier gamefish. Filling in are continued wahoo catches, kingfish and some medium sized blackfin tunas. So come on guys and gals and get in on the action! Give me a call and book your trip today, dont forget to ask about our new VIP customer appreciation program.

Thanks,

November 2011

Sunday December 4th, 2011

Fishing Fort Lauderdale in November was absolutely excellent this year! Sailfish took the stage front and center with a strong showing throughout the month. Quite a few fish were taken on the troll along with many on the kite baits. Mixed in with the sailfish and keeping us busy and entertained were the hoardes of mahi mahi. The green and yellow demons swarmed our waters from right on top of the reef in 50 feet of water showering shoals of ballyhoo, all the way out to 500 feet erupting schools of flying fish. The mahi mahi this time of the year typically run larger in the 8-10 pound range all the way up to 25 pounds or better. Quite a few wahoos abounded as well, with their electric purple tiger stripes and razor like teeth. Look for the same type of action throughout December as well!!!

OCTOBER FISHING FORT LAUDERDALE

Monday October 3rd, 2011

Finally, October is here!! October is the Official start of SAILFISH SEASON!! This month huge schools of mullet, ballyhoo and sardines begin pushing South as the weather gets colder to the North. Right behind these massive shoals of bait are lots of mahi mahi, wahoo and best of all SAILFISH. Once we get our first cold front this month IT’S ON!! We will be either slow trolling live ballyhoos or kite fishing with live goggle eyes. Some sails have already begun showing up even without the aid of a cold front. Whats great about sailfishing is the afternoon bite is just as good as the morning. You just have to get in front of them. If you have good current and blue water and the fish are moving through you should get the bite. Keeping them on his another matter! A hooked sailfish will use its incredible speed, agility and high jumps to try and rid itself of your hook. They take huge runs in the process so your gonna have a lot of winding to do. Its all worth it once we pull your fish boatside for some great pictures and a clean release. We will even get a measurement for you should you wish to have a trophy mount made!
October bookings are filling in Fast so dont miss your chance at angling glory!

August and September Fishing Fort Lauderdale

Tuesday August 2nd, 2011

Hey Guys and Gals,

So you think July was hot, just wait. August and September can be down right brutal with the heat but the fishing can be just as hot. Early starts are the key this month and next, although the breeze picks up in the late afternoon and cools things off a bit, at least on the water.  I actually like late afternoon trips from like 3pm to 7pm or 4pm-8pm.  You beat the heat and the fishing is just as good as the morning. We should be cashing in on some big wahoos this month as they prey on the hoardes of bonitas blitzing down the reef.  Big kings also make their presence known this month.  We like to fish larger live baits on tandem hooks on wire for both the kings and wahoos, we fish a couple out of the riggers and at least one on the down rigger. I like to fish just a little deeper for both the big kings and wahoos from 150 feet out to about 350 for the wahoos. Mahi fishing is still good this month but you really need a 6 or 8 hour trip to dedicate the time to find them as they are passing farther and farther offshore as summer decends upon us.  Swordfishing remains strong this month and calm seas make for easy fishing.  Back inshore big sharks are on the move as well following the schools of kings and bonitas i mentioned before.  Bites are usually not long in coming when you put out the “beef”.  We look for good current from just outside the reef and around wrecks and out to 350 feet.  We catch a few hammerheads this month, an occasional thresher and lots of bulls and dusky sharks. Enjoy your swim at the beach!

All Sorted Out June 2011

Thursday July 28th, 2011

Hey Everyone,

Ok, here’s the scoop! our new site is up and running and fishing reports are monthly “Heads Up” so you can look forward to whats biting.  Blogs are daily or weekly catches.

June is a great month to fish Fort Lauderdale.  Look for lots of kingfish and bonita action on the reef.  While lots of fun in terms of numbers neither is really good on the table.  That is why Fort Lauderdale has the wahoo.  Wahoo begin to make their presence known this month as they follow and feed on the bonitas.  While we catch lots of smaller wahoos offshore around debris, on the outside edge of the reef we catch big bruisers pushing 60-70#’s.  We will catch some trolling for kings or even high speed trolling strictly for wahoos, I’ve caught all my Giant Fort Lauderdale wahoo pulling small to medium live bonitas around on the down riggers. Wahoo will be biting well through August. Mahi Mahi are also still around in June although farther runs offshore are the norm and the “schoolies” are more abundant that the larger Bulls and Cows.  Some sailfish are still stragglin around as well as lots of sandbar and bull sharks.  Look for some hammerhead sharks mixed in as well.
