If I only had one month to pick to fish out of the whole year it would be May. For one the winds have laid down leaving us with a light South East wind perfect for kite and shark fishing. The kingfish and bonitas are thick on the reef. The Dolphin (mahi mahi) are more reliable anywhere from the reef to 10 miles off shore. The swordfish are biting and the seas are perfect for day time deep dropping for them or for drifting at night. Amberjacks are big and aggressive on the artificial reefs and wrecks. Some sailfish are still lingering around. Sandbar sharks and hammer heads are at their peak this month and wahoos begin to make a real strong showing as they prey on all the bonitas. My favorite tackle buster, big black fin tunas are HERE! You gotta love when a thirty pound tuna jumps on a small spinning reel intended for a mahi mahi.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing with us on the 22nd was Bobby, Vicky, Bobby Jr and Debra from Fort Lauderdale. Fishing was a little slower to start today but we caught a nice bonita and 8 huge tile fish. The 23rd Tom and Helen from Texas fished with us and had a great day . We started trolling and caught 3 bonitas, we quickly butterflied them into big shark baits and popped the kites and put out the big guns. We had an immediate bite on the shark bait outta of the kite but we somehow missed it. After regrouping and resetting we got another immediate bite on the kite bait and Tom was connected to a good size hammerhead. Tom is quite an experienced angler and put his skills to the test and brought the big fish to the boat for release in about 25 minutes! great job Tom! Ralph, Lou and Dean from Chicago did some Fort Lauderdale Fishing with us on the 26th. We were having some trouble with the conditions trying to fly the kites as the wind was very gusty and then it would drop completely so we abandoned that and did some trolling. Ralph caught a decent Mahi mahi to get the “skunk” out of the box. And then big Lou got connected to a big mahi about 25#’s. After a great job of anglin the hook pulled just feet from the boat. We then made a few drops and caught some tilefish. Thomas and his friends and family fished fort lauderdale with us on the 27th and captured a huge amberjack dropping on one of our many Fort Lauderdale fishing wrecks. We then put out the big rigs and they caught a huge hammerhead shark! And on the 28th Delores, Donald and Alford joined us from Atlanta. We pulled out of the slip after some iffy weather and went straight to bottom fishing. The snappers were chewing but they were on the small side, so after putting a few in the box we tried for tilefish. They werent biting as well but we managed a couple, then off to trolling. We caught four real nice kingfish and called it a day!

Ft Lauderdale Fishing remained strong all of March and we had quite a few days with great catches . March 1 Jeff, Trevor and John from Michigan had a box full of tilefish and a beautiful 48 inch wahoo. In the afternoon however we had Helen, Mike, Todd, Chris and Carlos on the boat for an afternoon of Fort Lauderdale Shark Fishing. We went to our usual spot in 350 feet of water and within 45 minutes we got an epic bite on the bottom bait. Chris jumped in the chair for battle while everyone else helped to clear the lines and cheer Chris on. We left one line out of the kite while we tried to control Chris’s shark. And wouldnt you know it a big hammerhead shark piled on the bait. Double Header!!!! We somehow managed to control both fish and pulled a giant thresher shark through the door for a quick measurement and release and then went after the big hammerhead. Everyone took turns on reeling in the hammerhead but thank God Helen was there she did better than the guys and put the boots to that shark for a quick release.
Rob, Andy,Ken and Ashlee from Denver caught three nice mahi on the 2nd and Ray and Jim from Chicago caught a nice blackfin tuna and big wahoo on the 3rd. On the 4th we had Ryan and his friends who busted up 6 black fin tunas and 1 bonita. On the 6th Steve and his buddies from Canada caught several nice mahi. Jack, Andrew and Rob had a nice box of blackfin tuna and a mahi . Our good Buddy Mads from Norway his friend Matt,Thomas, Peter and his son Sanders crushed the bottom fish with some of the biggest gray tilefish ive ever seen. Tom and Eric from Dallas caught a huge Hammerhead shark on the 25th. Ron and Brooklyn from Kansas caught a big hammerhead 93″ on the 30th and Sean and Amir caught a beautiful sailfish and some mahi mahi on the 31st to round out the month.

Fishing Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Pompano Beach waters this month will prove to be some of the years best fishing. Overall March was pretty good but April so far has been outstanding. On the troll we have been crushing medium size black fin tunas and plenty of dolphin (mahi mahi). Lots of bait around with ballyhoos on the inshore patch reefs and a ton of flying fish offshore. Sailfish are still biting on gogs out of the kites but between the dolphin and the kingfish they barely have a chance to get your bait. Multiple times already this month we’ve had two or three dolphin on while a sailfish is trying to eat another bait. Its been crazy. Oh yeah the sharks are “SNAPPIN” big hammerheads, thresher sharks, a couple of makos and some sandbar sharks as well as bull sharks. On the wrecks the big amberjacks have taken up a strong residence as well as a few groupers, good luck getting a bait past the jacks though. They have been big, aggressive and strong as ever. Bottom fishing for snappers and tilefish has been great too. I love Fishing in April!!
Oh Yeah and the Daytime sword fishing is off the chain and the night time swords are biting too!!

Fort Lauderdale Swordfishing is normally done 12-17 miles offshore but as we all know there are no fences in the ocean and Ft Lauderdale fishing is always full of surprises! My best friend Chris that I’ve known since I was 4 chartered the boat on St. Patricks Day with his brother Bill, his cousins Scott and Craig and good friend Jim. Since Scott and Craig are from West Virginia and have never been sport fishing on the ocean before we started trolling. We caught a couple small blackfin tunas, a bullet bonita and lost a couple small blackfins to start the day. We decided to try and move up food chain and try for some big groupers or amberjacks on the wrecks, so after catching a couple more bullet bonitas we sent them down 267 feet on one of my favorite artificcial reefs but with little or no current we got no bites. It was at this point we decided to go big or go home! We popped the kite baits up in 350 feet of water and put out the shark baits and thats when it happened! My deckhand Brendan just touched bottom with big penn international 80 wide loaded with 100# test and took about 5 cranks with the reel and it bent over WE WERE CONNECTED!!! Line began to peel effortlessly from the big reel and angle toward the surface, I knew we had a big shark on, probably a hammerhead. Then the line went slack as I got that horrible feeling we lost it, just moments later a huge swordfish erupted from the water in the middle of our kite baits!! Scott our first of three anglers on this fish finally got tight with the fish again and the battle was on. We got the other lines cleared, set up the harpoon and got to work. Scott did a great job staying with the fish but began to burn out on the sea monster, so Craig jumped in for a turn. By now the fish was very close within a 100 feet. The battle i thought was almost over and thats when the swordfish became one of the most difficult and unpredictable fish I have ever dealt with. The fish would run away from the boat 50 feet do a 360 and then charge it almost going in the wheels twice, this fish did this a dozen times, each time brendan getting a hold of the leader and getting the fish almost in reach with the harpoon that Jim had clutched ready to fire. Jim threw the Harpoon twice just missing as the eratic fish continued to air it out behind the boat. Craig then hit his limit and Chris brother Bill jumped in to polish it off as he got the fish up one last time Bredan grabbed the leader, Jim harpooned the fish and Chris gaffed it!!! I came down and put a head rope on it and we all slid the 300-350 pound sword through the transom door!!!! What an incredible day!!! Way to go guys!!

February fishing, while it had some good days, overall was very sloooooow! I know March Fishing Fort Lauderdale is going to be great! it always is. On March 1st our morning trip brought Jeff and Trevor from Michigan and another Jeff from the Poconos. Right off the bat trolling Jeff laid into a respectable 25# wahoo and I was already praising the new month. I think i got a little excited too quick because I couldnt buy another bite after that. We switched up to some kite fishing but had no luck. So we caught some tilefish while we kite fished waiting for the big bite.

In the afternoon it was a whole new ball game. We had Helen from England, Mike from New york, Todd from chicago, Chris from Milwuakee and Carlos from Los Angeles. We decided to go big or go home. This was a corporate convention trip and my team wanted a “Big Win”. We popped the kites and put out the big shark baits. We waited and we waited and we waited and with over half the trip gone I thought we werent going to pull this off and then it Happened, the Fish Gods answered our prayers with an incredible bite on the bottom rod, a penn international 80 loaded with 100# line for subduing Sea Monsters. We Got Big Chris in the chair and he went to war. First a huge blistering first run, then a dive strasight back to bottom, then offshore toward the surface and then back down. Chris was about 30 minutes into his battle royale when chaos struck, a Big Hammerhead ate the other shark bait we had out of the kite. Now we had two sea monsters on!!! Now everyone had been helping Chris hold the rod on the first fish so they were pretty worn out already as they began to take turns fighting the hammerhead while Chris continued his own battle. Both sharks were fighting deep right behind the boat and i was so worried the lines would cross and cut each other off, so i clipped a small buoy to the line with the hammerhead on it and lightened the drag allowing the fish to pull away from the boat and angle toward the surface. We finally got chris,s Fish to the boat. Holy @#$% it was a 400# plus Thresher shark, now protected we pulled it in for a quick measurement a whopping 125 inches. After a bunch of high fives we went after the hammerhead. Thank goodness Helen was on board cause she put a whoopin on that fish so bad that the rest of the guys on the boat should be embarrassed. You go girl!

March 2 Rob, Andy,Ken and Ashlee didnt catch any sea monsters but they did end up with four mahi mahi pushing 25#’s. Nothing wrong with that, Great Day!Ray and Jim followed suit on the 3rd with a nice wahoo and a handful of blackfin tunas. As did Ryan on the 4th with 1 bonita and 5 tunas. The 6th was a little slow today as we missed a couple of sailfish bites. Gotta give the fish a little credit their fighting for their lives. We did manage a real nice mahi mahi.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing was tough to guage the first couple of February because business was a little slow. The cold fronts werent rolling through like they should here or up north so, no one needed to flock to Fort Lauderdale I guess. The second half of February business picked up and so did the fishing for the most part. Without the cold fronts the sailfish were running a little behind. Some catches of interest was Laura and Sean’s 91 inch Sailfish that Laura had the great honor of reeling in while kite fishing Fort Lauderdale. Ernie from Mryland won a great tug of war with a 25 pound bull mahi mahi. Great catch Ernie. Mark and Frankie loaded the box with kingfish. Allison and her father Gary caught a beautiful snowy grouper and a yellow eye snapper. I goota say im looking forward to fishing in March! Should be much much better!

Fishing Charters in Fort Lauderdale are tough to beat. Every gamefish that swims our waters is present in Fort Lauderdale fishing waters. Sailfish are still around, mahi mahi, wahoos, kingfish, amberjacks, bonitas and blackfin tunas and SHARKS! We continue to do a lot of kite fishing this month along with putting out the big baits on the 100# tackle for the giant hammerheads, thresher sharks and makos that begin their haunt upon our waters.

The weather is still mild with light predominant winds out of the South East, perfect for kite fishing and the seas average less than three feet this month which makes for comfortable fishing for everyone. Wreck fishing this month is increasingly good as the giant amberjack AKA the reef donkey begins its southward breeding migration, staging on our deeper artificial reefs and wrecks from 150-300 ft deep. Beefy tackle is called for to lower frisky live baits to the outside upcurrent edge of the wreck. The bite is fast and violent as the amberjack crushes and swollows your bait in the blink of an eye and makes a mad dash for the safety of the wreck. We lock the reel up and pull away from the wreck to try and coax the fish from his lair. Once safe from the entangling wreck you sit in the big fishting chair and go to battle. Be prepared for a long greuling fight with big runs, head shakes and brute force.

Jan 14 Barbara, Myra, Mark, Noah and Steve fished Fort lauderdale with us this morning for a good pick on some nice king mackeral. The afternoon trip brought Dick, Dave and Bob from Boston joined us looking for some Fort Lauderedale sailfish action. We popped the kites up and put the gogs out and got an insta bite on two big bomber bonita. We thought we were looking at the start of a great afternoon of fishing unfortunately those were our only bites and fish for the afternoon. We kite fished most of the trip, then tried some drops on the wrecks to no avail and even went on the troll. Tough day on the rip.
Jan 18 Bobby and Brian from Atlantic City joined us for some fishing while on their expidition to drink the most beer humanly possible. We caught some blue runners and tinker mackeral at an anchored ship and we pulled Bobby out of the livewell. We did some trolling and caught some nice kings. We also caught a nice amberjack.
On the 21 Adam and Terry joined us for some kite fishing for sailfish and sharks. After awhile doing this with no bites we finally got a huge shark bite on the bottom rod. Adam jumped in the chair and fought the beast for close to 45 minutes before the hooks pulled. Tough break Adam. On the waqy in we pitch baited a nice trophy dolphin that Adam subdued in perfect form.
Jan 22 Al, Leonard, Dennis, Damon, Richard and Devin from Wisconsin were fortunate enough to have a good day of fishing this month. January is usually a great month for sailfish but its been reaqlly slow and dissapoiunting. Big leonard jumped in the chair for his turn and caught a beautiful wahoo, while everyone else took their turn on some kingfish. We then did some bottom fishing and caught some snappers and tile fish.
