Mahi-mahi, also known as Dorado or dolphin fish (but they are not related to the mammal dolphins), is one of the fastest offshore game fish to catch and see in the ocean waters. Mahi-mahi is a beautifully colored fish: its sides are golden with iridescent greens and blues, and its belly is white and yellow. However, these colors can change rapidly – when hooked, these fish “light up” with almost neon colors and mahi-mahi often turn silvery over-all with blue spots on the flanks. Importantly, mahi-mahi are among one of the fastest growing fish (they spawn in warm ocean currents throughout much of the year).

As a rule, mahi-mahi fish tend to travel in large schools ranging up to 50 fish (mainly, young 3-8 pound species). When they are about 8-15 pounds, they begin to travel in smaller packs and once they pass the mark of 15-50 pounds, they normally travel in pairs. These pairs consist of one big male fish and a large female one.
